Biography
'We are lucky to have her in Denmark!' presenters, audience and critics exclaim. Since winning 5 prizes in the prestigious ARD Competition in 2006, Marianna Shirinyan is establishing herself as an international concert pianist and chamber musician, working with such renowned artists as Christian Altenburger, Ernst Kovacic, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Thomas Brandis, Wolfgang Bötcher, Ana Chumachenko, Ivry Gitlis, Ilya Gringolts, Ida Haendel, Midori and Pavel Vernikov. She has also performed in radio and television broadcasts (Bayerische and Norddeutsche Rundfunk, Danish radio, BBC, Tele Madrid etc ). Ms. Shirinyan performs regularly in international chamber music festivals like MDR Sommer/ Schloss Wartburg, Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival as well as the Esbjerg International Music Festival and summer festivals in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. She has performed with Philharmonie Südwestfalen, Würzburger Philharmoniker, Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Münchner Kammerorchester, Armenian Chamber Players, Neues Kammerorchester Bamberg, Odense Symfoniorkester and Ålborg Symfoniorkester. Future engagements include concerts with DR Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, I Pommerigi Musicali di Milano and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2004 Marianna has been teaching at the chamber music academy of the music competition 'Jugend Musiziert' in Schloss Weikersheim, Germany, and in addition she has held a part-time position as a teacher/coach of piano accompaniment at the Musikhochschule Lübeck in Germany between 1998-2006. Since 2007 she has taught in the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
She has also received acclaim in many national and international competitions. In 1994 she was placed first in 'Youth Chamber Music Competition' in Paderborn, Germany (Junge Ensembles Musizieren), and was a prizewinner in following international piano competitions: 'International Competition for Young Pianists' in Ettlingen, Germany, 'Gaillard', France, and twice in Spain - 'Maria Canals' and 'C.I.P.C.E.'. In 2001 Marianna has received both the prize of 'the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival' and 'the Possehl Music Award'. In 2002 she won the 1st Prize of 'the International Lion's Competition'. Marianna was the highest prizewinner of the chamber music competition 'Premio Vittorio Gui' 2004 in Florence/ Italy, together with the Finnish violinist Laura Vikman. In the ARD Music Competition in Munich she was awarded: Second Prize, 'the Audience Prize', 'the Special Prize of Münchner Kammerorchester', 'the Brüder-Busch Prize' and finally 'the Prize of Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks'. The Danish Music Critics' Association have awarded Marianna Shirinyan their annual prize 2009.
Ms. Shirinyan has been a member of Esbjerg Ensemble in Denmark since 2003.
Marianna Shirinyan was born in 1978 in Yerevan, Armenia. Beginning her studies at the age of seven, she attended the Tchaikovsky music school in her home town under the guidance of teacher Margarita Hakobian. In 1997 she then went on to study at the Komitas Music College in Yerevan with Igor Javrian, and two years later in Hamburg with Mathias Weber. Ms. Shirinyan completed her studies at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Konrad Elser in 2007 with top grades.
