Kristina Wahlin, Mezzo-soprano
Biography
The young talented mezzo soprano Kristina Wahlin is Swedish born and has studied singing at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and completed her musical education as an opera-singer at the Royal Academy of Music in London, from where she graduated in 2000.
Kristina Wahlin made her Danish debut as Cherubino LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and the title role in Händel’s Ariodante at Opera Funen, Denmark. She was re-invited to sing the title role in ORFEO by Gluck in 2004.
Kristina Wahlin had great success as Isabella in a concert performance of L’ITALIANA IN ALGIERI at the Tivoli Concert Hall in the summer of 2004. The press wrote: “Kristina Wahlin sang the role with all the virtuosity we admire her for. She is a miracle.”
Ms. Wahlin has been a soloist with several symphony orchestras in Scandinavia, performing Bach, Mozart, Händel and Rossini.
In the seasons 2006 to 2008 Kristina Wahlin was a company principal at the Oper Köln, Germany. She performed in leading roles such as: Rosina, Hänsel, Isabella, Nicklausse, Cherubino and Guilio Cesare. In 2008 she sang Siebel FAUST in Sao Carlos Opera Lisbon.
2009 she performed as the Third Lady in THE MAGIC FLUTE in the outdoor Opera Hedeland, Copenhagen and she has been reinvited to Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos, Lisbon where she will sing Cherubino and Prince Orlofsky.
In September 2009 she sang the leading part in the worl premiere of the performance 'TOMORROW IN A YEAR' (I morgen om et år) with Hotel Pro Forma and music by the Swedisch rock group The Knife. The performance got raving reviews (see reviews link) and will be touring to Germany, Belgium and Sweden.
Kristina Wahlin has received numerous prizes and grants.
