Bo Skovhus, Baritone

Biography

Born in Ikast (Denmark), Bo Skovhus studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, at the Opera Academy in Copenhagen and in New York. A star of the Vienna State Opera, he regularly appears also at the Vienna Musikverein and at the Vienna Konzerthaus. In April 1997, the title of an Austrian „Kammersänger“ was bestowed on him.

Besides his performing with the leading opera houses and orchestras in Europe, America and Japan, Bo Skovhus devotes a large part of his time to Lieder recitals. The artist is considered as one of the top Lieder interpreters of his generation and has been invited to the important festivals and music centres all over the world. Bo Skovhus is appearing in recitals partnered by pianists such as Helmut Deutsch, Stefan Vladar, Andreas Haefliger, Yefim Bronfman, Leif Ove Andsnes, Christoph Eschenbach, Daniel Barenboim and since recently, also with Xavier de Maistre on the harp.

In concert, Bo Skovhus has performed with the most distinguished orchestras throughout Europe, the U.S. and the Far East. Within his considerable repertoire, the baritone’s specialities are works by Gustav Mahler, Scandinavian composers and pieces such as Frank Martin’s JEDERMANN MONOLOGE and Zemlinsky’s LYRIC SYMPHONY.

The artist has enjoyed collaborations with conductors such as Gerd Albrecht, Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Jiri Belohlavek, Michael Boder, James Conlon, Andrew Davis, Bertrand de Billy, Charles Dutoit, Claus Peter Flor, Armin & Philippe Jordan, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Christoph Eschenbach, John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marek Janowski, Sir Charles Mackerras, Zubin Mehta, Ingo Metzmacher, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Georges Prêtre, Donald Runnicles, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Ulf Schirmer, Horst Stein, Jeffrey Tate, Christian Thielemann, Edo de Waart and Simone Young.
