Daniel Raiskin, Conductor

Biography

Since 2005 Chief Conductor of Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, Daniel Raiskin ranks among the most versatile musicians of his generation and has established himself os one of the leading European violists before embarking on a career as conductor.

Born 1970 in St. Petersburg and trained in the best Russian-European musical tradition he has studied viola in St. Petersburg, Amsterdam and in Freiburg. At the same time Mr. Raiskin has studied orchestral conducting with Lev Savich in St. Petersburg and at various master classes with Neeme Järvi, Mariss Jansons, Milan Horvat and Jorma Panula among others. His international career brought him to such major venues as Musikverein Vienna, Berlin Philharmonie, Berlin Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Zürich, Cologne Philharmonie, Munich Philharmonie, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Victoria Hall Geneva, Sala Verdi del Concervatorio Milano, Mozarteum Salzburg as well as Lincoln Center, New York.

In 2002 Daniel Raiskin was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Wroclaw State Philharmonic Orchestra "W. Lutoslawski", which he has led on a number of highly acclaimed tours of Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and The Netherlands.

His recent and future engagements include concerts with such orchestras as St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orchestra Hague, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, The Brabant Orchestra, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Beethoven Orchester, Bonn, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Oulu Symphony Orchestra, Finland, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Malmö Symphony Orhcestra, Sweden and Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra among others.

His contract as chief conductor with Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie has recently been prolonged until 2013. From the 2008-09 season Daniel Raiskin is appointed chief conductor of “Arthur Rubinstein” Philharmonic Orchestra in Lodz, Poland.

He has collaborated with such renowned soloists as Natalia Gutman, Shlomo Mintz, Julian Rachlin, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Benjamin Schmid, Daniel Müller-Schott, Hagai Shaham, Martin Fröst, Steven Osborne, Enrico Pace, Peter Jablonski, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Alexei Lubimov and many others.

A strong advocate of contemporary music, Daniel Raiskin has performed a great number of works by such composers as Alfred Schnittke, Arvo Pärt, Gija Kancheli, Mark A. Turnage, Peteris Vasks, Aluis Sallinen, Anders Hillborg, Wolfgang Rihm, Sofia Gubaidulina, Evgen Stankovich and many others.

Daniel Raiskin regularly devotes time to conduct opera and has conducted the Netherlands Opera Zuid production of Bizet's "Carmen" in 2006-07 season.
